  • A few months ago I was given the opportunity to dig through the Archives at American Cyclery, one of the oldest bicycle shops in San Francisco. The archives are interesting as the original owner of American, Oscar Juner collected tons and tons of scrap books and ephemera of cycling around the bay area dating back to the early 40s. It paints a picture of a rich cycling community that seems to have been lost to the ages. To illustrate the scale of the collection, all the photos I am posting now are from a single scrap book. There is an entire storage unit filled with these, plus trophies, jerseys, parts, bikes, and much much more. The Bicycle Museum in Davis has expressed interest in acquiring the collection but the current owner of American fears the collection would be hidden away from the viewing public. He expressed to me interest in having the archive digitized and freely availible online but unfortunately it was too daunting of a task for me to undertake. Perhaps someone out there has the wherewithal to pull it together!

Wrap up from Tokyo CMWC 2009:

Well, 6 days and 5 night in Tokyo was really fun.

Ok – it took me 4 days to come down from the trip. I feel like I have to wrap up the CMWC before it’s too late, but there are more stories and photos from Tokyo that I have to dig out to share.  For now I will just say……I Really had fun. Tokyo oh Tokyo, what did I get from Tokyo? Let see, two pairs of Japanese natural indigo dyed denim pants, two Japanese chambray shirts, hundreds of new friends, and a proof of true love. Yes – I asked, and she said Yes.

  • Each Sunday, the San Francisco Sunday Streets Program picks a neighborhood in SF and shuts down the street to cars. That means free reign for people, skateboards, rollerblades :( , and more importantly, BIKES! This Sunday it’s the outer mission so come out play, ride bikes and have fun. Looks like it’s gonna be a nice day out too San Francisco!!! And even better, Pushbike on 24th is having a party at noon- kegs and hotdogs.

And if you missed out this Sunday, head over to sundaystreetssf to find out the full schedule.

  • It’s that time of the year again. The infamously brutal Quake City Rumble Alleycat race is just around the corner.

    Quake City Rumble!!!!!

July 4th at 3pm- Come to SF and have a blast. This race is for messengers and non-messengers alike, although it’s not for the faint of heart. This yearly race has been known to be unforgiving, looooong and will take you to the nether regions of our fine city. More information and a schedule will follow shortly, but for now:
