• Yuen'To's Music Balloon Portable Speaker

Leave it to the Japanese to design something cute, yet functional- So Cute!!!

Yuen’To’s new Music Balloon is perfect for a quick jaunt on the bicycle where headphones are a no-no. Actually, this little guy will give you 5 hours of music on a two hour charge and is only 55mm (a little over 2 inches for you non-international types) in diameter. It also works in any device that has a mini speaker jack. All packed into a 7 watt speaker that looks a little like a clown nose (in a good way).

  • Zos Jack Taylor Curvy Low Profile

Zo's Jack Taylor Curvy Low Profile

Zo made it out to Mike’s Breakers to Bay race this Sunday on his curvy ST Jack Taylor low profile Time Trial bike (whew, mouthful). This is an odd, but interesting frame. A bit ironic as well. Like and old man dressed like “Bad” era Michael Jackson. It’s weird for me to see the hand painted Taylor logo, box lining and all the classic British elements on the 80′s craze known as LoPro. Don’t get me wrong, I would own it in a second because it’s pretty damn unique. Thus worth sharing.

  • An artistic still life on my living room floor, made by the folks of CycleZine! The chair-base, stem, and bars have each been given to me by my friends, and fellow blog-writers here. A collection I’m quite proud to share:

    Sean, William, Puck, Brian

    Sean, William, Puck, Brian

The stem comes from William.  Early last spring we all converged on Dolores Park for an impromptu bike swap.  I was unemployed and hopeful, and William made a wonderful gesture by presenting me with the gift of a steel Cinelli Pista stem.  The nice one, the one I’d wanted for — oh, around nine years or so!  The one last touch on my bike that I’d never been able to indulge myself enough to purchase.  It was a nice sunny day, and I was blown away to be handed such a present.

  • We all ride bikes.  We all love art.  We all drink coffee.  How can we combine these three seemingly separate worlds?

    Mafac Cantilever

Very easy!  Just show up to Jeff Hantman’s art show on May 14th, 2009.

Jeff is a main factor behind the wonderful operation here in San Francisco known as De La Paz Coffee, a small roaster who happens to share space with several of our bike friends (Chuey, Pass/Stow Racks, etc).  What makes De La Paz even more amazing though, aside from their small batches and absolutely amazing beans, is the fact that we get our delivery via bicycle.  Yep, that’s right – once a week or so, Jeff shows up to my office as well as countless others, and delivers 10 pounds of some seriously amazing beans.  This past drop, Jeff had something much lighter to hand over – a nice postcard with one of his paintings on the front of it.

  • Dear you,
Did I tell you how cute you are when you ride that bike? I love seeing you take control of that bicycle; it shows me that you are an independent person, a person who loves freedom, someone who knows cycling makes you healthy and who wants to help reduce pollution from this planet. I think I have a crush on you darling…
Now go spend some money at my friends’ store!

  • I was lucky enough to grow up in a sunny, sleepy suburb just south of San Francisco. Like any kid growing up in the wee 1990s, I was raised on chrome BMX bicycles made by GT, Robinson, Elf, PK Ripper, and the rest. I had my first subscription to BMX Plus! Magazine in 3rd grade and was tearing up the local BMX track which was just a short ride from my house.

  • Voila!  So I finally had a chance to finish uploading all the photos that I took at the SF Tweed Ride on April 30th. The ride was very fun and there was a positive mood in the air among the tweed-outfitted bike riders.  Despite the muggy, grey, thursday weather, the wool sure kept the riders warm – there’s a reason cyclists have been covering their limbs and bodies in the material since bikes first had wheels. I must admit, it’s not the tweed that brought me out,  but the willingness of people to gather and share in the joy of similar interests while looking very proper.

  • Tomorrow night, Friday May 1st, Beryl Fine’s San Francisco Bicycle Messengers Book release party will be at Bender’s. Come through and hangout. It’s a great book- 75pp, with Portraits of SF Messengers and cover by Mike Giant. If you remember, Beryl did the messenger calendar last year- so you know it will be good. Come by and I will get a picture of you and Rob Salimo at his best.

    Hella-

  • I stumbled across this photoset while day-dreaming about how life is a long learning process – I am, and will be forever a student: to learn, to understand, and to implement.

This photoset is taken on a North Star Bicycle Tour Group which was organized by Bikecentennial on June 11th , 1982.
    Amazing journey. I am inspired.
