I’m a sucker for a nice vintage box or two and the following are no exceptions. Here are a couple of things that showed up in the mail the last few weeks. Just thought I would share, because sharing is caring.
I love the lettering and pictographs of this vintage Gaslo box. It’s more in line with the graphic design of that era. Whereas most cycling design was a couple decades behind the fold with a lot of their graphics.

I don’t know how to begin this, but last weekend’s visit to First Annual BMX show was so amazing - I am so bloody stoked, happy, stunned and blissed. There were so many good looking vintage BMX bikes all in one place, not picutred in the magazine’s glossy photo spread or in some old photos, but they all were at Calabazas Park – turning it into a sort of BMX Natural History Museum.

Entering through the doorway from the street is like walking into a doubly-sweet candy store: skateboards on the left side, and bike-stuff on the right. Pushbike shop has finally opened right on 24th Street, sharing floorspace with Mission Skateboards.

Gone are the days of lug lining and hand painted logos as seen in this fine example of an Austrailian Healing (currently being auctioned on ebay by CZ friend Ben K.). But are they? I was recently in my favorite SF bike shop, The Freewheel on Hayes street and saw this amazing machine by local framebuilder 43 Hills. The details are amazing and up close even better.

With the looming threat of Monday ready to rear its ugly head and crush your soul, it’s good to know that folks like Martin Appel (via CR list) can post a nice shot or two to act as a distraction.
And while we are toying with Moz references, be sure to check out the ONLY SWEDISH Vampire move in existence, Låt den rätte komma in. It’s the film that director Catherine Hardwicke should have watched before committing that atrocity known as Twilight to film.
So enjoy your last few hours of freedom and if things get you down, just permalink to this post and stare longingly into the lugs.

If you happen to be in the South Bay Area this coming weekend – It’s this Saturday May 9th, 2009 at Calabazas Park, Cupertino CA and while we are musing on the subject of classic BMX bikes, here are some amazing shots from our fabulous photographer friend Mr. Daneil Dent..

Really clean way to route front and rear brake cables. The rear isn’t really a problem for me, but the front is always another story. With cantilever brakes and not enough stack height on the steerer tube/headset, you often have a really nasty nearly-90 degree angle bend on the front brake lever down to the steerer tube cable-stop.

Pictures from San Diego Custom Bicycle Show – Rock Lobster.

My “donations” request is two fold. Your first reaction was probably “this dude just wants money to buy a bike”, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But it doesn’t stop there. In order to ride said bike, I would have to go through a painful leg lengthening surgery ala South Park. It would be costly and painful, but I have decided to do it.
First off, the cost portion would not be an issue as our dear readers would pay for it. As for the pain- worth every bit to own this amazing bike.

Once again, leave it to the French to class up something as simple as the die cast toy car.
This is no Nascar, B.S., but actual TDF die cast, hot wheels style cars. The are all here. The mechanics car, the race directors ride, the media car, the radio car, even the little yellow bus that picks up the quitters. So throw away your crappy Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt and get your hands one these.

WOW WOW WOW, just WOW
Check out the Nervex lugs… OMG
I was so excited to find this Schwinn Paramount… I don’t think I have ever been this excited about a bicycle. I would trade what’s left of my liver for it. I just asked the owner for it’s story and I’m still waiting for the reply- Stay tuned.
However, I was super stoked to find it and wanted to share…
Maybe one day if I ever have a child.. this will be the bike for him (or her).
