As promised – I have uploaded another twenty pictures from a visit to Cycle Square. Last month we went over to Cycle Square in Tokyo to check out the spot and see Erik’s exhibition.
Cycle Square is in Sendagaya, which not too far from Shinjuku and a bit north of Shibuya. It’s a quieter neighborhood, surrounded by several parks and garden such as Shinjuku Gyoen National garden, Yoyogi Park and Aoyama Cemetery. A very tranquil place to be.

October 1 - Art Opening, Cafe Royale @ Post St.
HELLO!
If you are free tonight we’d love to see you at this art opening. Cafe Royale is a nice little wine and beer bar with a great pool table and neat old tiled floors, and they’ve offered their walls to our good friends at The Loin.

When I saw this in my RSS ticker, I had a slight freakout. You see, I’ve been going to Canyon De Chelly since I was a little kid. My grandma, or Nana, took me their for the first time when I was about 8 or 9, then a few times after that.

You see, every year from about age 5 to about 14, my Nana and I would pack up the old station wagon and take a road trip. Usually through the Southwest. Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico. She was a big proponent of taking me out of the classroom and showing me history in person. We concentrated on lots of the famous national parks, but we both were intrigued by the smaller, more out of the way archeological sites. She has a deep interest in the Native American culture of that area, especially ancient Anazasi sites. So when I saw that the Rapha team rolled into Chile Arizona for a ride and stayed at the Thunderbird Lodge, it brought back a ton of fond memories- as this was by far one of our favorite places.

Yanked this from Pete Gowdy’s Flare site today. Looks he is guest-curating an Oddball films screening of vintage cycling films tomorrow on Capp Street. For those of you not going to the American Velodrome Challenge at Hellyer in San Jose, head on over. I’ve seen a couple of these and they are pretty damn entertaining. But just a quick warning for those of you expecting “A Sunday in Hell” or similar, this isn’t for you! Think along the lines of Reefer Madness, but with bicycles instead of pot. Oddball films is known for their extensive archive of, well, odd archival films with an an ‘interesting quality’ (not to mention: bringing Ridley Scott to SF to film Blade Runner). For details on the event, go to flarerecord.com.

I don’t know how to begin this, but last weekend’s visit to First Annual BMX show was so amazing - I am so bloody stoked, happy, stunned and blissed. There were so many good looking vintage BMX bikes all in one place, not picutred in the magazine’s glossy photo spread or in some old photos, but they all were at Calabazas Park – turning it into a sort of BMX Natural History Museum.

With the looming threat of Monday ready to rear its ugly head and crush your soul, it’s good to know that folks like Martin Appel (via CR list) can post a nice shot or two to act as a distraction.
And while we are toying with Moz references, be sure to check out the ONLY SWEDISH Vampire move in existence, Låt den rätte komma in. It’s the film that director Catherine Hardwicke should have watched before committing that atrocity known as Twilight to film.
So enjoy your last few hours of freedom and if things get you down, just permalink to this post and stare longingly into the lugs.
