Reality Check: Alex Singer

I hope you hop over to check the price. It will give you a good reality check of what the market rate is for this kind of bike. Sheldon Brown’s site does have a page that tell you the estimate price of bikes, but I have not visited that page for a while. We hope this kind of posting will give readers a good sense of cost for this rare type of bike.

“Fabulous full chrome bike, 650 B wheels.

Absolute top of the range model, early 50s, with all the best parts and braze-ons. Barn-find condition, untouched, all original except for the stem (should be a custom AS stem) and saddle.

Check-out all the wonderful Singer bits : quadruple RD braze-on, Singer brakes and rollers, Singer front derailleur, Singer carriers; Singer front light bracket.

Fabulous wheels : Mephisto a bloc rims (perfect logos), superlight spokes, Maxi-Car hubs early two piece type.

Beautiful Stronglight crankset, Cyclo 5 speed to move the chain over to the repose chaine integrated into the rear dropout.

One of the essential qualities of this bike is the exceptional lugwork, on these top chrome bikes a huge amount of work went into filing down the lugs to noting before polishing. They have an almost sculptural quality. You only see this kind of workmanshop on the best Herse or Singer bikes.

Chrome is not perfect but the oxydation is never deep and this would be an esay rechrome if you choose that option. You could also keep the chrome as is, as the original logos are all there and it is beautiful as is, and it would polish/clean up a lot better again with some hard work (this would be my choice, but once the bike is sold it’s not up to me to decide).

Postage by economy or priority postage in two packets, one with frame, the other with mudguards and wheels. Economy uninsured to the US 87 euros each packet. Insured priority 118 euros each packet.”
